The South Perth Junior Football Club commenced a new program in 2008 in which players from the Under 14’s junior team’s umpired matches in the nine, ten and eleven age groups. The reason for the use of the players was to assist the Perth District in filling umpiring vacancies to games and to assist the player’s football knowledge and life skills.

The program was designed to give the players the basic understanding of how to umpire a junior match and specifically looking just at the modified rules of nine, ten and eleven age groups.

Since then the program has continued to grow each year with more players electing to put something back into the game.
